The New Mac mini (Mid 2010) - What has changed!

The New Mac mini (Mid 2010) - What has changed!

The first important feature that banged me on the head and thrown me out of my chair (ok i'm exaggerating a bit) is the new tool required to remove the Main Logic Board. It's known as the self-explanatory... "Logic Board Removal Tool" (no surprise here). It's a U-Shape tool, See picture to have an idea. iFixit used 2 torx screw drivers to remove the main logic board, which is strictly formally forbidden by Apple of course and this action will definitely damage your main logic board and consequently void your Applecare warranty. iFixit used the 2 screw drivers to remove it without any problem. Apple is known to use weird tools in disassembly of their product (if the product is "Disassemblable" (new word from me)) or simply we cannot disassemble the product i.e if not covered under Apple care warranty you just throw it away. Another example of a weird tool used in the recent past until the new Mac mini was introduced is the Putty Knife (see picture) used to remove the Top Housing of the "Old" Mac mini.

The new height intrigued me as well. It's more flat but a bit larger than its predecessor. Height: 1.4" , Width: 7.7", Weight: 3.0 pounds. The Apple TV (Height: 1.1") is nearly as high as the new Mac mini.

It's interesting to note that in the New Mac Mini Server (Mid 2010), the Super Drive is replaced by a 500GB 2.5" SATA Hard Disk and there's a 0.2 pounds difference between the Mac Mini Server (Mid 2010) and the Mac Mini (Mid 2010), the latter is heavier! Why? I don't know yet, may be a superdrive is heavier that a 2.5" Hard disk. I need to ponder deeper upon this to know the truth.

In the meantime you can leave your comments below, please tell us whether you like the new Mac mini or not.
